Race Review: NYRR Joe k. 10k

Welp It’s January 2nd, and I have officially started my 9+1 with the Joe K. 10k! The race being named after Joe Kleinerman “one of the founders of New York Road Runners Club, the NYC Marathon, and Women’s Distance running” – nytimes. This has been my second time running this race since 2017, with this year being much better. Weather kept to a nice 47-50 with light rains, instead of a dreadful 10 bellow and snowing!

The Race is a 10k just over 6 miles, with lots of rolling hills. Taking place in central park and starting going down Harlem Hill , looping west and south and back up the north again on the east side. You may catch some sights along the way, one such is the Fred Lebow Statue.

If you choose to run this race be sure to train for colder temperatures, as New York Weather can be rather scattered and unpredictable. You should also train inclines and declines, the course has a lot of hills that can push your endurance.

The race Featured 5000+ runners this year, and had a top finishing time of 29:23 (4:44 pace) from Teshome Mekonen. You can normally register around December.
