Sunset on The Devils Bridge
In Arizona, the winters can range from warm and sunny to snowy and ice cold. Sedona is the perfect mix of both.
Impulsively on a Sunday afternoon we drove up north to a popular hiking spot, The Devils Bridge. The temperature was perfect for a light sweater and there was no snow in sight. We were lucky to get a parking spot, as the place tends to fill up quickly. With about an hour until sunset, we set off on our short adventure.
The route to The Devils Bridge rides up a high clearance vehicle road towards the trail head. My little car was definitely not making that trip. We walked a little over a mile before we found the sign for The Devils Bridge.
The start of the trail is relatively flat. With the trail being 1.8 miles roundtrip, this was a fairly easy hike. The hardest part was a little bit of scrambling at the end leading to the bridge itself and the views made it all worth it.
I was surprised when I saw the bridge, as it was smaller than the photos online portrayed it but that didn’t take away from its beauty. The burnt orange natural bridge was contrasted by a massive span of lush green forest, a stunning view for a winter day in the desert.
As the sun was going down we wandered back to the car arriving just in time to be surrounded by a serene night sky.
The Devils Bridge is a popular hike for good reason. If you can get a spot in the parking lot, you won’t be disappointed. If you like to avoid the crowds, either arrive extra early in the morning or close to sunset for the least interaction. Bring water and enjoy the hike!
