The first round began with Alvarez running and taking Brown to the corner and getting a takedown. They grappled for the rest of the round while both men got a few shots in. Brown had a big kick on Alvarez while he was still down, finishing out the first round strong.
Round two, this time it is Brown starting off with a takedown, but Alvarez was able to capitalize and get control of the grapple landing a huge punch to the head. Round three begins, the third round was more of the same with back and forth grappling on the ground. Round three finishes in the last three seconds with brown winning it all. The ref said that Alvarez did not respond when he was getting choked so he called the fight, but he and the crowd were not to happy with the decision causing quite the uproar in and out of the cage!
We caught up with Alvarez after the fight and he had this to say:
“I feel like there’s not much to say, I’ve worked my butt off to even get myself in that position for it all of it to be taken away from me with one sec left in the fight but I made a promise to myself and I won’t let it defeat me, I’m going to learn from this and make sure I come back 10x better.”
-Christian Alvarez
We asked what happened at the end there and he told us:
“All I can say is I kept giving the ref thumbs up letting him know I was still there with the last 30 secs then when I heard the last 10 secs I just wanted to make sure I was calm and waited for the clock to expire. For the ref to do what he did, it’s truly heart breaking, but I won’t sit here and make excuses, I live and learn. Next time I won’t sit there and let someone squeeze even if it’s 10 secs left”
