The Barberville Falls Preserve, now owned and stewarded by the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, is a nature lover’s paradise and a testament to breathtaking natural beauty. Nestled within the Rensselaer Plateau, this preserve boasts the iconic 92-foot waterfall that has captivated all who have had the privilege to visit.

Ownership and Stewardship

The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance (RPA) expresses gratitude to The Nature Conservancy for entrusting them with the Barberville Falls Preserve. In addition to the ownership transfer, The Nature Conservancy has generously provided funding to match two grants aimed at enhancing the preserve’s infrastructure.

Trails for Every Adventurer

Visitors to the Barberville Falls Preserve are treated to a network of well-maintained trails, each offering a unique perspective of the surrounding natural wonders. The Falls Trail, commencing from the main parking area at 23 Blue Factory Road, provides a short but steep descent to the base of the falls, granting a close-up view of an unfinished mill project.

The Ridge Trail, also beginning at the main parking area, guides hikers through rocky terrain and ancient cart paths, eventually rewarding them with captivating vistas of the Poesten Kill. This approximately 0.75-mile trail leads to narrow creek crossings and a ridge ascent alongside the stream, providing intermittent yet tantalizing views of the falls.

For those seeking a more tranquil experience, the Creek Trail offers a smooth path marked with gray indicators. This trail descends to the banks of the Poesten Kill, allowing visitors to soak in the serene ambiance of the flowing waters.
