It may sound like something out of a movie, two men traveling across the United States on nothing but a skateboard, but for Jason and Orio it has been a reality. For 76 days and ending on Dec 14th, Jason and Orio traveled from Los Angeles, California to New York City, New York, raising money for kids along the way!
Jason has been skateboarding most of his life starting at the age of 9, and being no stranger to the unknown and outdoors. Jason once only dreamed of skating across the Great United States, but with a steady mind, pure ambition, and a lot of pushing he and his buddy made it happen.
For many today, the struggle of finding motivation can be drowned out by alcohol and drugs, but Jason found motivation in skateboarding and the community that surrounds it. Skateboarding once know as a sport for punks, has flourished in recent years, with many coming out just to skate alongside this legend on his journey east.
It wasnt all sunshine and rainbows though, as Jason and Orio had to traverse the fall and winter weather of rain, snow, and cold temperatures, not the most ideal situation for a skateboarder. For those of you who don’t know, with rain and snow, skateboards will get water logged, increasing the weight and destroying the bearings. Over time this makes each push heavier and more difficult, not impossible but absolutely difficult.
Fortunetly for Jason and Orio, they would get support during their final days from an unlikely supporter. Vans tracked them down providing fresh gear to the guys ensuring they would make the remainder of the trip in comfort and style.
“Youโre pushinโ, youโre going through all this pain, but you canโt be mad at it because you see all this beauty.โ @jaayfilms has pushed over 2,850 miles on his skateboard from Venice Beach to New York City, raising money to donate hundreds of skateboards to kids. To help with his final leg, we tracked Jay down outside of New Jersey, hooked him up with some fresh gear, and joined him on the ride. Weโre so proud of you, Jay

On day 76, Jason and Orio would in fact make it to NYC, and be greeted by members of the skateboarding community. Enough to pack times square with cheering fans and supporters, marking a great feat in skateboarding history. As to what comes next for Jason and Orio, that’s still to be determined, but there is talks of another big trek in a yet to be determined country!
You can keep a close eye on their next steps by following them on instagram. They are still accepting donations to help get kids skateboards and partnered with “the skate park project“, to which you can find the links in their bios.
