Vromans nose Clearing looking out into the valley bellow
Vroomans nose is located in Middleburgh, NY and has an elevation of 456 feet. The mountain was originally formed through years of glacial movement, pushing rock and sediment all into this massive pile o’ mountain that we all get to enjoy.

According to CNY there are 2 trails on this mountain, and one nearby by called the long trail which goes from New York City all the way to John Boyd Thatcher state park, another similar overlook. In 2012 the old trail on Vroomans Nose was revamped to give the trail a safer and more enjoyable experience.
Along the way you may notice some animals like deer, and some larger birds of prey. Along with some of the creatures, you will notice more shale stone, limestone, and Hamilton sandstone penetrating from the ground the further you go up. Originally before the the formation of the mountain, it had all been clay and silt. Eventually because of that glacial movement which we mentioned earlier, which occurred over 50,000 years ago, the silt and clay piled up and formed Vroomans Nose. (ancientForests).

For the average person this hike won’t take more than an hour of your time, but once you get to the top your going to want to take a minute to enjoy the view. Fortunately there are some fire places and benches to chill out at. The views of the surrounding Schoharie Valley and mountains are breathe taking, a beautiful blue morning sky lush mountaintops and fields of farms and a little town bellow.

Keep an eye out while at the top, there are a few hawk nests along the sides. So for any avid bird watchers, you can see them up and close here.
On a side note, while we did not do any snow shoeing here, the trail did seem good for snowshoeing come winter. If you haven’t tried going before it’s fun and in some ways easier than hiking. This place would be fantastic for beginners.
