The race day began with an air of excitement as participants gathered at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady, New York. The bustling energy of the event was palpable, with the anticipation of the upcoming challenge filling the air. The bib pick-up at the Landing Hotel, on the far side of the casino, marked the official start of the race preparations.

It was a strategic move to park on the opposite side, ensuring an easy exit later and securing a space close to the race finish line, where we planned to capture some memorable photos as the runners crossed the end point. The careful planning and attention to detail added to the overall experience, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the festivities and create lasting memories of the event.

The morning started off with a temperature of 30 degrees and gradually warmed up to about 50-55 degrees, accompanied by mild winds throughout the day.
Although the forecast predicted rain, the showers didn’t begin until most runners had already finished their activities.

The course was indeed mainly flat with just a few inclines, which provided a wonderful variety for the runners. The route took them over three bridges and alongside traffic in several parts, offering a mix of serene natural settings and urban landscapes. As they made their way along the course, runners were able to take in the picturesque views of the Mohawk River as the race meandered through Schenectady, Scotia, and the edge of Glenville.

The scenic journey also allowed them to pass by notable landmarks such as the Mohawk River, Collins Lake, and the historic Stockade District of Schenectady. Additionally, runners had the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail at various points along the way, where they may have even encountered a traveling biker, adding an unexpected and delightful element to the race. With such a diverse and captivating course, participants were sure to create lasting memories as they embraced the unique sights and experiences that the route had to offer.
The staff and volunteers, with their friendly and helpful attitude, played a crucial role in ensuring that everything went smoothly. Furthermore, the proactive involvement of the Schenectady County Sheriff, Scotia PD, and Schenectady PD in blocking roads and securing traffic added an extra layer of security and organization to the event.

I liked this race because it followed many of the routes I took while training for the NYC marathon in 2023, and it was a nostalgic way to get back into running after 3 months off. It was truly invigorating to reconnect with familiar paths and landmarks, each step evoking cherished memories of preparing for the marathon.
The race not only rekindled my passion for running but also served as a poignant reminder of the dedication and perseverance that went into my marathon training. It felt like a symbolic journey, both physically and emotionally, as I retraced the steps that once fueled my determination and commitment to reaching my goals. This experience reignited my love for running and instilled a renewed sense of purpose, inspiring me to continue pushing my boundaries and striving for new achievements.

The commitment and determination displayed by the last runners in a race are truly awe-inspiring. Despite being aware that they are trailing behind, they continue to push through with unwavering resolve. Their perseverance serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the refusal to give up, even when faced with adversity.

It’s a testament to the resilience and inner drive that exists within each individual, showcasing the capacity to overcome challenges and persist in the pursuit of their goals. The last runners exemplify the epitome of courage and fortitude, leaving an indelible impression on everyone who witnesses their unwavering efforts.
