Established in June 2023, Electric City Jiu Jitsu is a fresh face in Schenectady, located off of Central Ave at 7 Lombard Street.
Walking in can be confusing, use the glass doors on the warehouse. Once inside you’ll be greeted by an ECJJ graphic on the door inside. Follow through and you’re in!

The gym offers an abundance of mat space, roughly the size of 4 IBJJF size mats. With a strong focus on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but offering classes in Striking and Judo as well. The gym is open weekdays at 6:30 am to 8 pm with hours on the weekends.

Wash facilities are also sizable, accommodating to several people at once, expediting outgoing groups post training. Good for large seminars and events.
Lineage
Jason Althiser a Blackbelt from Renzo Gracie Latham under Bruno Tostes (Renzo Gracie black belt). Jason with his own accomplishments in IBJJF Worlds, Boston Open, Pan AMs, and Pros, as well as others, left to begin his own school and founded Electric City Jiu Jitsu.
The school is still fairly new with many aspiring athletes, and a few established athletes from the area including former fighter Eddie Charette and competitive grappler Aaron Murray.
Attention to Detail
What was great about visiting ECJJ was the attention Jason gives to everyone. While visiting, even though I’m not a member of his team, he took time to nitpick my technique and offer critical pointers to help me improve my Jiu Jitsu.
A Community
The team welcomed me in no questions asked, and were excited to have a training partner from outside their normal rolls. If there were any hot heads in the gym they kept to themselves, as everyone seemed to be respectful fostering a learning first environment.

Members of this gym are actively competing and looking to set a name for the gym in the local scene.
The energy at Electric City is like none other. Knowledge that comes from a prestigious lineage and welcomes EVERYONE! Best of all no ego… just great energy and incredible jiu jitsu!
Eddie Charette
The signing fee for the the gym is $130 a month, or if you’re just dropping in for the day mat fees are $25. These prices are slightly below average, this is a great rate.
