Silver Lake Wilderness Trail Head, Part of the Northville Placid Trail Photo By John Murray
Just a short five minute ride outside the small town of Northville, NY is a short but beautiful walk, located in the beautiful and amazing Silver Lake Wilderness of the Adirondacks.
To get to the trail head enter from Benson Road off rt 30 headed from Northville, NY, and watch for parking off to the side. The trail should be right across the street. You will find a sign directing you in, and be sure to follow markers.
This trail connects with the NPT a greater system of hiking trails, make sure to follow the correct markers.

The location boosts a breath taking view of Woods Lake and offers a great location for fishing, picnic, and camping!

Mind you there are a lot of rolling hills here, during our brief hike I slipped several times on ice.
During the summer and fall seasons though, it’s easier to find flatter land, and camping here is actually really great!
If your coming in from out of town, don’t worry. Available to the public per DEC rules you can even camp out here over night, to which this has become one of my favorite spots! Just beware it is first come first serve on the camping spots.
Other than camping and fishing this trail doesn’t offer a whole lot, it’s a fairly straight shot in and out, and some hill sections along the shore.
