You can think of this book much like a Jedi holocron from Star Wars, providing insight to the history and techniques of a much older martial art. The author of the book Darrell Craig is an expert in Japanese martial arts, with a background in Karate, Iaido, Jujitsu, Kendo, Aikido, and Judo. He is also the author of “Iai, The Art of Drawing the Sword”, and owner of the Houston Budokan.
Diving into the book is pretty easy, it kicks off with a history lesson flowing through Japanese Jujitsu, to Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Breaking down each arts significance on history and martial arts. Darrel does a phenomenal job of also illustrating some of the martial philosophies you may encounter on your journey, and includes minor details like taking care of your Gi.
The bulk of the books chapters are all techniques ranging from hand-to-hand, to staffs and guns. Showing the reader step-by-step visuals with in depth details and explanations written out to follow.
The book reads easily and parts can be skipped or gone back to for people looking for specific techniques. Each chapter covers a specific area making it convenient when training.
