20th Firecracker 4 Mi. Road Race: Saratoga Springs, New York

On July 4th, 2026, Saratoga Springs, New York will be hosting its 20th Annual Firecracker 4-Mile Race right in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs. The Firecracker Sparkler .2-Mile kids run begins at 8:15 AM, and the 4-Mile run begins at 9:00 AM. The forecast is looking like it’s going to be a beautiful 82-degree day with a few clouds.
This race was initially created by a handful of enthusiastic and ambitious athletes, coaches, and supportive parents trying to raise money for their local schools and provide a fun event to have their community participate in. Its debut race launched on July 4th, 2007, organized by Charlie Woodruff, Bob Vanderminden and Peter Goutos. Their debut race only featured 142 runners.
The Firecracker quickly gained popularity, with thousands of runners to participate from all over the Capital Region. The race organizers partnered with the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce’s Veterans Business Council in order to instill a military tradition into their race each year, and pay respect to the heroes who have allowed us to enjoy this all American tradition.
The Firecracker is the longest running and largest Independence Day race in the North East, celebrating its 20th year supporting over 25,000 runners. This race allows for both teams and individuals to register and participate. The race begins on Broadway outside of the Saratoga Springs City Center, and concludes on Ellsworth Jones Place behind the City Center, with different entertainment along the way.
The fun doesn’t just end there! There will be several different live bands performing beginning at 7pm right in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs, but there will be fireworks as well at 9pm. Not to mention it’s opening weekend at the Saratoga Race Track if you frequent track season.
