2026 Run The Runway Review: Schenectady, NY

What a spectacular event this turned out to be!! The Schenectady County Airport hosted the 5th annual Run the Runway event this last Saturday, September 12th. And it did not disappoint.

Runners and spectators alike were welcome to step foot on the airport’s runways and taxiways for a once in a lifetime, up close and personal experience. There were several fighter jets, cargo planes and helicopters, ranging from Vietnam era to modern day that you were displayed for the event. Several of which you could actually go on and explore!

The race had a little over 200 runners for the 5k, and a handful of kids 12 and under who participated in the kids 1-Mile Fun Run. Our top 5 Male and Female finishers were:

5) Jamie Davenport (41)- Schenectady, NY: 24:05

After the race, you could help yourself to some ice cream or a hotdog from First Prize Mike’s who brought food trucks to vendor the event. They also had live music being performed right in the hangar allowing for some incredible acoustics. Lastly, all runners were able to enjoy free admission to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum allowing for even more fun filled activities.

We would like to give a HUGE shoutout to our veterans, mechanics, and servicemen who volunteered for the event, and loaded my head with all sorts of first hand account knowledge that I’m truly grateful to have received.
