Plotterkill Preserve
Leaving the city of Schenectady, this hiking trail is located toward Mariaville lake. This hike will require some driving up a few hills and through the woods off Mariaville road, or one of its other three entrances you can find Plotterkill Preserve. The serene beauty of the stream, nestled amidst the rolling hills, creates a picturesque backdrop for outdoor exploration.

This is probably the most expansive hike in the Schenectady area, with 632 acres of land with 3 entrances spread between its low and highlands. Plotterkill has a stream bed that you can walk down, offering a unique experience to hikers, and a massive waterfall that is visible from either the low or high lands. After a good storm, the waterfall is indeed a sight to behold, with the rushing water gracefully falling down the 70-foot drop, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle.
Approaching from the top requires caution due to the history of individuals experiencing injuries from falling down the sides. It’s essential to exercise vigilance and consider the potential risks associated with navigating this area. Safety should be a top priority, and it’s advisable to explore alternative routes that pose less danger.
