Battle on Broadway by Cage Wars MMA
Schenectady’s first ever public kickboxing “Battle on Broadway” event was held, Saturday, June 15th at 3pm brought to Schenectady by way of Cage Wars MMA and produced in conjunction with United Universe Productions.
Located on the corner of Liberty & Broadway, Schenectady, NY, in the parking lot across from the local restaurant, Vice & Virtue.
The Build Up to the Battle
Walking up to the event felt like I was walking into a block party, with some vendors scattered around the lot, such as Thumpersthings Merch, Drink booths, and a free barber.

The Fights were hosted by Nash Hylton, bringing his unique energy and charm to the ring between fights.

The fights brought a full crowd with maybe 200 -300 people in attendance based on observations, with room to spare. Seats were not included, however some patrons came prepared and pulled up spots front and center with their own lawn chairs.
Many notable fighters from previous Cage Wars events including Bobby Angelo, Kyle Glasheen, Elshaddai Vanhoesen were on the card.

The Card Results
(please note this is not an official account of the results, and is subject to error. thank you for understanding)
Craig Sawyer vs Ethan Clifford
The first round started off slow, but the second rolled in with a classic slug fest of a brawl until the buzzer, with blow for blow until the end, teetering off in the third and ending in a draw.
Jaha Sevincer vs Nate Gray
First round went slow setting the pace for the second round, the second round ended in a stoppage, after Jaha landed multiple 4 punch combos on Nate delivered on the ropes!
Cancelled – Malakai Madison vs Anjuan Cowen
Ayden Robles vs Anthony Miles
Ayden went to war launching an onslaught of combos, putting the paces on Miles. By the second round Ayden had successfully kept Miles on the ropes, eventually finishing by referee stoppage in the second round.
Matt Ring vs Jason Slovak
First match was lackluster with a slow pace, and wasted energy on spinning back kicks that missed by the blue corner. The second round picked up pace with a few knock downs, and continuing into the the third, eventually ending with unanimous judges decision for Jason Slovak.
Jeff Gregory vs Paul Lafond
Paul started off round one putting the paces on Jeff, before Jeff began working Krav Maga on Paul’s groin, the round proceeding with 2 additional groin shots by Jeff. Going into round two, Paul furious off of the previous round went in hard, landing himself in a TKO after trying to get back at Gregory.
Update: this decision was later changed to a “no contest”
Elshaddai Vanhoesen vs Josh Depace
Josh came out heavy forcing ‘El’ towards the ropes, but this backfired, resulting in Josh receiving an onslaught of combos. By the second round and with being knocked down once already, Josh started the second round noticeably tired, allowing El to put the paces on Josh until the third round. The match ended with unanimous decision by the judges in favor of Elshaddai.
Kyle Glasheen vs Qasim Sanders
Starting off fast paced, this match pushed the paces, both competitors putting out powerful strikes well into the second round, ending with Kyle appearing to take control of the fight over Qasim. By the end of the third round, Kyle had taken clear control of the fight, dominating Qasim with low leg kicks, powerful spinning back kicks, and relentless attacks. The fight ended in a unanimous decision by the judges in favor of Kyle Glasheen.
Nace Bailey vs Enea Ardaij
First round going at a building pace, second round turning up the energy with both fighters showing a high level of competitiveness but lacking any tactics, making this a professional all out brawl. Eventually Enea took control of the slug fest utilizing knees and kicks to put Nace in the corner and on the ropes earning Enea the victory.

Bobby Angelo vs Isiah Colon
First round started off with Isiah attempting to push pace on Angelo, with Angelo showing efficient use of range to move out of Isiah’s offense. Keeping control of the pace into the second round, only to have Isiah turn the tables with some powerful combos. Bobby would make a strong return, landing multiple powerful one shot crosses back on Isaiah. The fight ended in a judges decision of a draw, and an uproar of locals.

Overall the event held up well and it was a great attraction to bring to downtown Schenectady on a Saturday evening. While there where areas that could use spot touching, I’d still highly recommend coming out to the next event.
Fighting for a Good Cause
