We’ve put together a comprehensive guide to keep you motivated and ensure your safety while you take on this remarkable challenge.

Mile Markers and Timing Mats:

As you embark on this incredible journey, remember that mile markers are posted at every mile, and kilometer signs are placed every 5 kilometers. Stay on track with these markers. Timing mats, set to correspond to wave 1, are essential to track your progress. These mats are located at the start, every 5K, halfway (13.1 miles), mile 20, and the finish.

Hydration and Nutrition:

For your safety, take fluids, fuel, and amenities exclusively at official stations. Stay refreshed with Flow Alkaline Spring Water available at official fluid stations every mile from mile 3 to mile 25. Gatorade® Endurance Formula™ Lemon-Lime Flavor is also at your disposal at official fluid stations from mile 3 to mile 25. Remember, fluids are dispensed in compostable cups, so pick up your cup and keep moving to avoid bottlenecks.

Science in Sport Energy Gels will be your go-to for fuel, available at miles 12 and 18. Signage on the course will indicate the gel zones and flavors, offering you the energy you need to power through.

Safety First:

Your well-being is paramount. Portable toilets, including wheelchair-accessible ones, are situated at every mile from mile 3. Medical aid stations are strategically placed at approximately every mile starting at mile 3 and at the finish. Medical volunteers and supplies are readily available. If you’re feeling unwell, injured, or need assistance, don’t hesitate to stop at the nearest aid station. Rest assured, the NYRR medical team is well-equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in ambulances along the course, ensuring your safety in a life-threatening emergency.

Race Rules and Support:

The TCS New York City Marathon course is closed to vehicular traffic during the race. Make sure to check for a schedule of bridge and street closures and re-openings as race day approaches. After the final wave starts at 11:30 a.m., sweep buses follow the marathon route, maintaining a 7-hour marathon pace (about 16 minutes/mile). These buses are available to transport any entrant who wishes to drop out to the post-finish area.

Family and Friends Support:

Your loved ones can track your progress using the TCS New York City Marathon App Powered by Tata Consultancy Services. For those who haven’t completed the course, please resist the temptation to cross the finish line or you’ll be disqualified. Enter Central Park at West 72nd Street from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to claim your checked bag. Bag pickup is also available Monday at the NYRR RUNCENTER from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
