Resolve to Choke Stress Out, and Achieve Your Goals This Holiday Season!

Many of us are planning our New Year’s resolutions right now, and the thought of what to begin with this new year can be challenging. So if I may, I want to suggest this year trying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art that began in the 1900s developing from Judo. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a martial art that uses many throws, takedowns, joint manipulation techniques, and chokes to subdue opponents. Since it’s inception, the art has become a popular sport world wide for its effectiveness, and its dojos are a place for people from all walks of life to destress and learn an effective means of self defense in the process.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and its community have helped me fend off depression for years, and even helped me cope with my PTSD and struggles that come with it. Through rolling with amazing people, from both at my home gym of Atlas and abroad, I have gained more self respect and humility than I could of ever imagined before. I’ve made life long friends, and joined a community that supports me. No matter where you go, you’ll find a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu dojo, and within it humble brothers and sisters who will welcome you openly to train and learn with them. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is just as much about development as is it is about martial arts, the sport and art is still developing, as are we as people. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu encourages us to improve with it, and in some ways forces us to improve.

The sport has opened me to a world and perspective I never imagined, and this year I’d like to invite everyone to try this amazing martial art. I invite all interested in checking out my home gym of Atlas Jiu-Jitsu, and if you see me there make sure to let me know you read this!
